Wendy Ashby returned to the University of Arizona as a Curriculum Development Specialist in the Office of Digital Learning after a civil service career as an applied linguist for the Defense Language Institute and the Department of State Foreign Service Institute. Equal parts artist and learning engineer, she finds serving at the visual and pedagogical intersection of online course design to bring synergy and a long sought-after balance to and application of her varied skill sets. Wendy is a graduate of the University of Arizona's Ph.D. in Second Language Acquisition and Teaching program as well as the UA South's MS in Educational Technology program. Additionally, she holds MA degrees in both German and English as a Second Language from Bowling Green State University and a BA in German from Weber State University.
Wendy's career has taken her abroad on several occasions, including extended living, working and teaching experiences in Germany as a Fulbright Fellow, China as an English Language Fellow, and the Philippines and Bolivia as an English Language Specialist. In these capacities, she worked as a cultural ambassador, primary and secondary English teacher trainer, disability and universal design advocate, and Web 2.0 trainer respectively. In her spare time, Wendy enjoys looking at and making art, singing in choirs, and traveling.
